Carnegie Public Library, Carnegie library in Tyler, United States

Carnegie Public Library is a limestone and brick building with a red tile roof located on South College Street in downtown Tyler. It was designed by Patton & Miller and displays the solid construction typical of public buildings from that period.

The building was constructed in 1904 with financial support from Andrew Carnegie and served the city as its main library. In 1980, the institution moved its operations elsewhere, and the building lost its original function.

The building showcases the classical architecture typical of libraries from that era, with its solid walls and crafted details. You can see how such places served as a center for education and gathering in a growing city.

The building is located in downtown Tyler and offers free admission to all visitors. Parking is available on the west side, and the location is easily accessible on foot from the city center.

The building was the first in downtown Tyler to have running water and still displays the original washroom. This innovation was a remarkably modern feature for a public facility at that time.
