Delta County Courthouse, County courthouse in Cooper, Texas, US

The Delta County Courthouse is a three-story building with Modern Movement and Art Deco architectural features located on West Dallas Avenue in Cooper. It contains several administrative offices including the county clerk, sheriff department, and justice of the peace services.

The building was constructed in 1941 by the Works Progress Administration as a replacement for earlier courthouse structures from 1873 and 1898. Its construction reflects federal investment in local infrastructure during the Great Depression era.

The courthouse serves as the central hub where county government meetings take place and residents manage official business. It remains a gathering point where people conduct important transactions and civic matters.

The courthouse occupies half a block bounded by Dallas Avenue, Bonham Avenue, NW 2nd Street and an alley, two blocks west of central Cooper. Most county offices, including the judge, sheriff and justice of the peace, are inside, so allow time to move between floors. The former courthouse site nearby is now a gazebo surrounded by brick roads.

The present courthouse was built two blocks west of its predecessor, on the site of the former Blackwell Livery Stable, which closed in 1912. The old courthouse square, still ringed by brick roads laid for that building, now holds a gazebo.
