Loyola University New Orleans, Private Jesuit university in Uptown New Orleans, United States.
Loyola University New Orleans is a private Jesuit institution in the Uptown neighborhood of the city. Academic buildings, residence halls, and the J. Edgar Monroe Library spread along St. Charles Avenue across from Audubon Park.
The institution began in 1904 as Loyola College with a handful of students. In 1912 it received its university charter and gradually expanded its faculties and programs throughout the century.
The name honors Ignatius of Loyola, who founded the Jesuit order in the 16th century. Students from more than 50 countries shape life on campus, bringing their traditions into seminars, performances, and everyday encounters between buildings.
Visitors reach the campus via the historic streetcar line on St. Charles Avenue, which stops at the edge of the grounds. The open layout allows for walks along the pathways between buildings, while proximity to the park offers additional quiet zones.
The Music Industry Studies program connects students directly with the local music scene, opening doors to studios and performance venues across the city. This link makes the campus a meeting point for aspiring musicians and producers from throughout Louisiana.
