Ruston, County seat in Lincoln Parish, Louisiana
Ruston is the county seat of Lincoln Parish in northern Louisiana, sitting at an elevation of roughly 335 feet (102 meters) above sea level. The city covers about 18 square miles and includes residential neighborhoods, public buildings, and the large campus of Louisiana Tech University.
The founding took place in 1885, when the Vicksburg, Shreveport, and Pacific Railroad opened the region and Robert Edwin Russ donated land for the new settlement. The location along the rail line encouraged rapid growth and made the place the administrative center of Lincoln Parish.
The name honors Robert Edwin Russ, who provided the land for the founding. The annual Peach Festival draws visitors from across the region and showcases the city's connection to the farming roots of northern Louisiana.
Most facilities sit in the downtown area and along the main roads that connect the center with outlying areas. The university campus offers visitors parking spaces and green areas for walking, especially during the academic term.
Louisiana Tech was founded in 1894 as a trade school and grew into one of the leading technical universities in the state. The campus now shapes the cityscape and brings students from many regions of the US to the streets.
