Marks’ Mills Battleground State Park, Civil War battlefield state park in Fordyce, Arkansas.
Marks' Mills Battleground State Park is a preserved Civil War battlefield in Fordyce, Arkansas, where fighting occurred during a significant campaign. The grounds include walking trails, informational markers placed throughout, and open areas that help visitors understand the layout of the historical battle site.
In April 1864, the site witnessed a major clash between Confederate and Union forces during a military campaign that extended across Arkansas. The outcome influenced the movement of armies and commanders across the region in the following weeks.
The battlefield serves as a memorial to Civil War conflicts that shaped the region. Visitors learn about the battle's impact on Arkansas through displayed information and physical markers throughout the grounds.
The park is accessible via a main highway and features marked walking trails for self-guided exploration. Visitors should wear appropriate footwear and allow time to read the information markers placed throughout the grounds.
The grounds preserve traces of an old Military Road that served as a critical escape route during the fighting. This historical route remains partly visible today and tells the story of troop movements during the engagement.
