The building was constructed in 1932 by Guy Spearman and served the local community with ice supply until 1970. It operated during an era when households depended on delivered ice before electric refrigeration became widespread.
Hand signal carvings on the walls show how people once communicated without speaking to place their ice orders. Customers from different backgrounds could express their needs this way.
