Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle

The Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle is a Gothic Revival church built from brick with a cross-shaped floor plan. Its tower rises 120 feet (37 meters) high, topped with a spire that can be seen from many streets in the downtown area.

A church first built in 1846 was destroyed during the Civil War in 1862. The current building was reconstructed in the Gothic Revival style in 1900 to replace what was lost.

The cathedral serves as a gathering place for Jackson's Catholic community, hosting services that reflect the neighborhood's religious identity. You can sense the devotion of worshippers who have passed through its doors over many decades.

You can visit the church throughout the day and walk around at your own pace to observe the building's architecture. Try visiting outside of service times if you want to explore without interruption.
