Gare de Saint-Pierre

Gare de Saint-Pierre is a former railway station in downtown Saint-Pierre featuring fluted columns, shingle roofing, and decorative trimwork lining Boulevard Hubert Delisle. The building displays French architectural traditions with refined details that remain visible today.

The station was built between 1889 and 1890 and served as the terminus of Reunion Island's only railway line. Operations ended in 1957 after nearly 70 years of passenger service.

The building represents French railway design of the 19th century in the Indian Ocean and shapes the character of the city center. People gather here daily to play domino and drink coffee, giving the space ongoing importance for the local community.

The station sits at 17 Boulevard Hubert-Delisle in the city center and is easy to reach on foot. Today it houses a café and serves as a popular meeting place, making it a good stop while exploring the neighborhood.

The building was registered as a historic monument in 2012 and received official protection status. Though the station's name was removed from the facades, visitors can still study the original architectural elements.
