Salazie

Salazie is a mountainous area on Réunion Island formed by a natural volcanic caldera surrounded by steep cliffs and numerous waterfalls. The landscape features a mix of deep valleys and ridges that create varied terrain.

Settlement started in 1829 when people from the coast moved inland after a destructive cyclone forced them to seek safety elsewhere. The area became an official municipality in 1889.
