Montezuma Falls

Montezuma Falls is a waterfall in Tasmania that drops through dense rainforest landscape. The water plunges over a significant height and flows into a narrow creek lined with vegetation on both sides.

The hiking track follows an old tramway path built in the 1890s for moving mining resources. This railway route once connected two mining settlements in the region.

The falls took their name from a silver mining company that worked in this area long ago. The name connects visitors to the region's industrial past and remains part of local storytelling.

The track is an easy to moderate hike through forest with well-maintained paths and several bridges. The round trip takes about three hours, so bring water and wear comfortable walking shoes.

A suspension bridge crosses the creek just before the falls, giving hikers an overhead view of the plunging water. This bridge is a favorite spot for photos where you can capture the full force of the cascade.
