West Coast Treetop Walk

The West Coast Treetop Walk is a steel platform that winds about 450 meters through native forest and reaches heights of 20 meters above ground. A 47-meter observation tower provides expanded views over the landscape.

The walkway was created from regional development efforts to connect visitors with New Zealand's temperate rainforest environment. The project prioritized environmental protection to preserve the sensitive forest ecosystems.

The walkway displays information about the connection between Maori people and the ancient Rimu and Kamahi trees found here. This relationship becomes tangible as you move through the rainforest setting.

The walkway is well-maintained with stable footing throughout the elevated path. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and prepare for changing weather conditions, as the forest environment tends to be damp and cool.

On clear days, the observation tower reveals views spanning from the Southern Alps to the Tasman Sea and Lake Mahinapua. This contrast between the forest canopy and distant horizons makes the experience memorable.
