Alma Park Zoo

Alma Park Zoo was a zoological facility in a tropical setting with around 200 animals from roughly 50 different species spread across landscaped gardens beneath rainforest canopies. Pathways wound through carefully designed grounds and past enclosures, guiding visitors from one animal collection to the next.

The site was founded in 1969 and for decades remained the oldest active zoological facility in Queensland. It ceased operations in 2014, marking the end of a long history of animal exhibition in the region.

The facility centered on hands-on encounters with native animal species, allowing visitors to observe koalas up close and learn about their behavior. These direct interactions made the location popular with families seeking to understand Australia's wildlife firsthand.

The park remained open during daytime hours most days and made for a good destination for a half-day outing. The landscaped pathways allowed visitors to explore the grounds on foot without requiring any special equipment.

A special area called Lemur Island housed a wooden cabin specifically constructed for the lemurs, giving visitors an unexpected glimpse into adapted animal housing. This section shared space with other reptiles and offered a mix of different species in a more compact setting.
