Lakeside International Raceway, Pine Rivers, Queensland
Lakeside International Raceway is a motorsport racing track in Queensland, Australia, located northeast of Brisbane near the suburb of Murrumba Downs. The circuit has a flowing layout with a mix of fast corners and shorter straight sections, and it hosts both car and motorcycle events throughout the year.
The track opened in 1961 and quickly became one of the main venues for Australian motorsport, hosting rounds of national championships in its early years. Over the following decades it was progressively updated to meet changing safety standards and accommodate new categories of racing.
On race days, the track draws a mix of families, amateur drivers, and long-time motorsport fans from the Brisbane area and beyond. The paddock area is often open to visitors, giving a close look at the cars and teams before and after events.
Arriving early on race days is a good idea, as parking fills up quickly and the best viewing spots along the barriers go fast. Most spectator areas are outdoors, so sunscreen and water are worth bringing, especially during warmer months.
Unlike many modern circuits, Lakeside has kept much of its original 1960s layout, which drivers say makes it feel less forgiving than newer tracks. This older design means the track rewards precision over raw speed, which is part of why many amateur and club racers continue to favor it.
