Port of Bundaberg, Maritime port in Burnett Heads, Australia

The Port of Bundaberg sits at the mouth of the Burnett River and operates two active berths with a depth of 11 meters (36 feet) to handle cargo vessels. The facility is designed to work with bulk goods and can accommodate ships up to 200 meters (656 feet) long.

The port moved from the town area to the river mouth in 1958 to handle larger bulk cargo vessels. This relocation allowed the region to increase its exports and became essential for the area's economic growth.

Sugar production has shaped the port's role in the local economy and remains visible through the specialized storage and handling systems you see throughout the facility. This connection to agriculture defines how the region developed and what brings people together.

The roads leading to the port are clearly marked, and you can see some of the operations from outside the main gates. Keep in mind that this is an active work area where access is limited and safety rules are in place.

The port connects directly to a gypsum factory and handles imports of raw gypsum alongside agricultural exports. This unusual combination of operations makes it different from most coastal ports in the region.
