Silver Legion of America

The Silver Legion of America was a political organization based in Asheville that operated during the 1930s and used paramilitary structures with uniforms. Members wore silver shirts paired with blue ties and displayed a scarlet letter L as their insignia.

William Dudley Pelley founded this group in 1933 during the Great Depression and recruited members across several states. The organization dissolved after the Pearl Harbor attack in December 1941.

The organization promoted white nationalism and antisemitic ideologies while attempting to create a Christian Commonwealth in the United States.

Members conducted regular meetings and rallies across multiple states until the organization disbanded following the Pearl Harbor attack in 1941.

The group developed an unusual political model that envisioned citizens as shareholders in a restructured system of government. This vision remained theoretical and was never implemented.
