Museum of Jurassic Technology

The Museum of Jurassic Technology is a science and art museum in Culver City, California, that brings together exhibits from natural history, technology and artistic installations under one roof. The rooms extend across several levels with low ceilings and narrow corridors, where each object is presented in custom-built display cases with accompanying labels.

A nonprofit organization founded the institution in 1987 in an industrial building in Los Angeles as a response to the prevailing museum presentation methods of the time. Over the years the collection expanded through donations and purchases, while renovations gave the rooms their current structure.

The name plays with the idea of gathering knowledge from different eras while raising questions about its reliability. Visitors experience dimly lit rooms where display cases hold natural specimens alongside artistic objects that do not always fit into clear categories.

The institution opens from Thursday to Sunday, with extended hours until 8 PM on Thursdays. Visitors should plan time for quiet observation, as many objects show small details that reveal themselves only after longer viewing.

In a quiet courtyard there is a small tea garden where visitors can drink tea free of charge after their tour. This outdoor area is part of the museum concept and offers an opportunity to think about what has been seen without having to leave the building.
