Mexic-Arte Museum, Art museum in Downtown Austin, United States
Mexic-Arte Museum is an art museum in downtown Austin that exhibits contemporary and traditional works by Mexican, Latin American, and Chicanx artists. The collection includes more than 1,500 artworks such as paintings, sculptures, dance masks, photographs, and rare books from Latin America.
Three Mexican-American artists founded the museum in 1984 with their personal art collection. Since then it has become an important venue for presenting works that explore the history and identity of Latin American communities.
The museum displays works by Latin American artists that represent the lives and traditions of their communities. Visitors find dance masks, paintings, and photographs that communicate the visual language of these cultures.
The museum is located downtown and is easy to reach on foot, with parking available nearby. The gallery spaces spread across multiple levels, so visitors should allow enough time to explore.
The El Mero Muro project turns the building's outer wall into a rotating art display. These murals by Latino artists address social topics and make art visible to everyone passing by.
