The Austonian, Residential skyscraper in Downtown Austin, United States
The Austonian is a 56-floor residential skyscraper at 683 feet (208 m) in Downtown Austin, Texas. Its dark grey reflective glass facade rises above the 360 Condominiums and Frost Bank Tower, with balconies and floor-to-ceiling windows on its upper floors.
Construction began in 2007 and finished in 2010, establishing this tower as part of Austin's urban growth at that time. The project represented a shift toward downtown residential development in the city.
The Austonian opened on the weekend of May 15–16, 2010, when it hosted the Women's Symphony League Designer Showhouse. That event was the last chance for the public to see the property before residents began moving in that June.
The tower stands prominently in downtown and is easy to spot from street level near shops and restaurants. Access inside is restricted to residents and authorized visitors.
In 2015 concrete spalls fell from balconies, revealing that steel rebar sat too close to the slab edge, letting water in and rusting it. Repairs were estimated at over $13 million and were completed in 2019.
