Puerta del Conde

Puerta del Conde is a fortified stone gateway in Santo Domingo's colonial center, featuring a large archway framed by thick defensive walls on either side. The structure displays typical Spanish colonial military architecture with solid stonework designed to control passage through the city fortifications.

The gate got its name from Count Peñalba, who led the defense of Santo Domingo against a major British attack in 1655. This military victory established the gate as a symbol of the city's strength and survival through colonial conflicts.
