Monte Plata Province, Eastern province in Dominican Republic
Monte Plata Province is an administrative region in eastern Dominican Republic. The territory is crossed by waterways and bordered by eight neighboring provinces that shape its geography.
The province was created in 1982 through administrative reorganization, separated from San Cristóbal Province. This division established its current capital from relocated settlements.
Local communities here keep traditional music and storytelling alive in daily life. These practices shape how people celebrate together and mark the rhythms of their year.
The region centers on agriculture, where cocoa, sugar cane, corn, yams, and citrus are widely grown. Visitors will see working farmland and rural villages that organize daily life here.
Two rivers, the Ozama and Yabacao, flow through the province and create a network of waterways. For local people, these rivers have been part of life and work for generations.
