Warm Mineral Springs, Natural warm spring and archaeological site in North Port, Florida
Warm Mineral Springs is a natural warm spring and archaeological site in North Port, Florida. The water emerges through a circular limestone basin that extends deep into the ground and is surrounded by dense vegetation.
Researchers discovered human remains and tools at the bottom of the spring in the 1950s, indicating settlement around 10,000 years ago. In the following decades the site was further studied and placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The name refers to the consistently warm waters that have drawn bathers for generations. The facility along the shore serves today as a recreational spot, while the spring itself continues to release water naturally from deep underground.
The spring is located along San Servando Avenue and includes changing facilities and restrooms. The water stays warm enough for bathing year-round, making a visit possible in any season.
Bones of ice age animals including saber-toothed cats and giant sloths were found at the bottom of the spring. The oxygen-poor water preserved these remains almost unchanged over thousands of years.
