Lafayette County, County administrative division in northern Florida, United States.
Lafayette County extends across 543 square miles of land featuring pine forests, natural springs, farmland, and the Suwannee River along its eastern border.
The county was established in 1856 and received its name from the Marquis de Lafayette, the French military officer who supported American forces during the Revolutionary War.
The county maintains agricultural traditions through farming communities, annual agricultural fairs, and local markets that bring residents together throughout the year.
The county seat of Mayo provides government services, while State Road 27 connects residents to neighboring counties and larger metropolitan areas.
The Suwannee River State Park within the county contains limestone bluffs and the remains of Confederate earthwork fortifications from 1863.
