Tangerine, Census-designated place in Orange County, Florida.

Tangerine is a residential area in Orange County, Florida, combining rural heritage with suburban development. The place mixes open land, neighborhoods, and waterways in a low-density pattern.

The settlement was first called Olaville but residents chose a new name in 1879 during a community gathering. This decision reflected the agricultural importance of the area at that time.

The community takes its name from the citrus fruit that shaped its early economy, a choice made during a grassroots meeting in the late 1870s. Remnants of the original groves still dot the landscape today.

Getting around requires a car since this is a spread-out residential area without a dense downtown core. Expect a quiet environment with limited commercial services nearby.

Author Pat Frank made this his home and drew creative inspiration from the surrounding region for his well-known novel set in Central Florida. His connection to the place remains part of local memory.
