Boynton Beach, Coastal city in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States
Boynton Beach is a city in Palm Beach County, Florida, stretching along the Intracoastal Waterway with neighborhoods, shopping areas, and parks on both sides of the water. The community divides into a western mainland section and an eastern barrier island portion connected by bridges.
Nathan Smith Boynton, a Civil War officer from Michigan, founded the settlement in 1895 by building a hotel that welcomed guests until 1925. The eastern oceanfront separated in 1931 to form the independent town of Ocean Ridge.
The Schoolhouse Children's Museum brings the past to life through objects and hands-on activities designed for younger visitors in a building from 1913. The collection connects local memories to learning, showing how education and community evolved together.
The city operates a train station connecting to West Palm Beach and Miami via Tri-Rail, plus local bus routes through PalmTran. Visitors can explore parks and waterfront areas on foot or by bicycle along designated paths.
Though the name suggests a beach, the actual oceanfront lies in a separate town that split off in 1931. Visitors find the waterway and inland parks instead within city limits.
