Old Frostproof High School, high school in Florida, United States
Old Frostproof High School is a 1926 school building in Frostproof, Florida, now serving as the town's City Hall. The structure displays Mediterranean Revival design with a brick exterior, stucco detailing, towers, and arches designed by architects M. Leo Elliott and Oscar Berg.
The building was erected in 1926 during Florida's land boom, when the town of Frostproof grew rapidly after the railroad arrived in 1921. The school served students until the 1980s when a new high school opened, after which the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
The building was a gathering place for generations of students and remains central to how residents understand their town's identity. Its conversion to City Hall shows how the community chose to keep its past relevant to daily life.
The City Hall is open weekdays from 8 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon and located at 111 West 1st Street with parking and ramps for accessible entry. Visitors can view the lobby, council chambers, and the historic auditorium, which is often used for community events.
NFL player Alvin Harper and citrus industry leader Ben Hill Griffin Jr., whose name graces the University of Florida's football stadium, both attended this school. This connection reveals how a modest school building produced individuals who became known across the state.
