Tyndall Air Force Base, Military air base in Panama City, Florida, United States
Tyndall Air Force Base is a military air base along the Gulf Coast in Florida, United States, operated by the 325th Fighter Wing. The facility sits east of Panama City and covers runways, hangars, housing units, and training and operational buildings.
The base opened on December 7, 1941, as a gunnery training facility and was named after World War I pilot Frank Benjamin Tyndall. It has been rebuilt and expanded over the decades to meet changing needs.
The base conducts regular military ceremonies, training programs, and educational events that connect service members with the local Florida community through various initiatives.
The facility is not open to the public and requires military clearance at the gate. Visitors without military credentials must apply for authorization in advance and register with security personnel.
Hurricane Michael struck the base in 2018 and led to a major rebuilding effort that lasted several years. Many new structures were built to modern standards designed to withstand future storms.
