Donald L. Tucker Civic Center, Indoor arena at Florida State University campus, Tallahassee, US
The Donald L. Tucker Civic Center is a multipurpose indoor arena on the Florida State University campus in Tallahassee, Florida. Its long, low front has dark reddish-brown brick with tall vertical glass panels on the left and a row of recessed bays between brick piers; a broad dark grey-brown roof slopes up toward the rear, with a small pale pyramid-shaped structure on the roofline. It seats up to 12,041 for concerts and holds 18,000 square feet of arena floor.
The facility opened in 1981 as a multipurpose arena for sports and entertainment. A comprehensive renovation in 2014 introduced new seating arrangements, digital display systems, and an updated floor to refresh the building for modern use.
The Centre Theater, a 6,000-seat configuration inside the arena, has hosted the Tallahassee Broadway Series for 11 years, presenting tours such as Les Misérables, Riverdance, Cats and Rent. The building is named after Donald L. Tucker, a former Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives and Special Ambassador to the Dominican Republic.
The arena sits on the northeastern side of the FSU campus, between the College of Law and the future College of Business, along the "Madison Mile" linking it to Doak Campbell Stadium. Events range from basketball to Broadway shows, so check the specific configuration and entry requirements beforehand.
The arena's first concert season in 1981 featured The Kinks on October 11 and The Beach Boys on October 29; Rush played in April 1982 and Iron Maiden in June 1982. Prince appeared on April 3, 1985 during the Purple Rain Tour, and Tina Turner on November 7, 1985.
