St. John's Episcopal Church
St. John's Episcopal Church, Gothic Revival church in Tallahassee, Florida.
St. John's Episcopal Church is a Late Gothic Revival church made of red brick with pointed-arch windows and decorative art glass throughout. Inside stands a pipe organ, and the overall design displays the characteristic architectural features of this style from that era.
The congregation first gathered for worship at the Leon County courthouse between 1829 and 1837. Their first church building burned in 1879, leading to the construction of the current structure soon after.
The church serves as a gathering place where residents participate in worship and community events throughout the year. It plays an active role in the spiritual and social life of Tallahassee, bringing people together regularly.
The church sits in downtown Tallahassee on North Monroe Street and is easy to reach and explore. Visitors can walk through the building to view its architecture or attend regular worship services held throughout the year.
The current building was erected in 1880 and formally dedicated in 1888. In 1978 it received designation on the National Register of Historic Places, earning recognition as a protected historic site.
