Jacksonville International Airport, International airport in Jacksonville, United States
Jacksonville International Airport is an airport in Jacksonville, Florida, handling national and international connections. The facility has two concrete runways measuring roughly 3048 and 2348 meters (10000 and 7701 feet) and several passenger handling areas.
The airport opened in 1968 and took over as the main air travel hub for northeastern Florida from Imeson Field. The new facility provided larger capacity for growing commercial air traffic in the region.
Displays in the terminal show the growth of air travel in Florida along with changing works by regional artists. Passengers walking through the public areas see pieces by local creators.
Buses operated by the Jacksonville Transportation Authority connect the terminals with downtown and other parts of the city. Travelers should allow extra time for the ride to or from the city center depending on the time of day and traffic.
The facility hosts the 125th Fighter Wing of the Florida Air National Guard, which operates F-15 Eagle fighter jets. Military and civilian aviation share the airfield and maintenance facilities.
