Hotel Blanche, Hotel in den Vereinigten Staaten
Hotel Blanche is a three-story brick building in downtown Lake City that opened in 1902. The structure features simple classical architecture with tall windows, decorative brickwork, and double entrance doors with fanlights, complemented by two annexes added in the 1920s.
The hotel was designed by renowned architect Frank Pierce Milburn in 1902 during a growth period for Lake City. It was Florida's first building to have an elevator and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
The hotel was the center of social life in Lake City for many decades. People gathered here for meals, meetings, and celebrations, with local clubs holding weekly gatherings in the dining room.
The building is located downtown on North Marion Street and is easily accessible from the parking lot on the block. The structure retains its major historic features such as the grand staircase, columns, and cornices, though the interior has been modified over time.
The hotel was the first building in all of Florida to have an elevator, making it a technological innovation in the early 1900s. A garage was built in 1925 to accommodate guests arriving by car, showing how travel habits were changing.
