Newnan is a county seat in Coweta County, Georgia, located about 40 miles southwest of Atlanta in the Piedmont region. The town spreads across rolling hills with a historic downtown core surrounded by residential neighborhoods that include older homes and wide streets.
The town was founded in 1828 and named after attorney Daniel Newnan, serving as an administrative center for surrounding farming communities. During the Civil War in the 1860s, the town became a hospital location, and many buildings from before the war remained standing through that period.

The town sits along Interstate 85 and U.S. Route 29, making drives to Atlanta and other parts of Georgia straightforward. The downtown area is easy to walk around, and most public buildings are near the central courthouse square.
In March 2021, an EF4 tornado passed through the town, leaving heavy damage to buildings and trees. This weather event was one of the strongest storms recorded in Georgia since meteorological tracking began.
