Suwanee, Suburban municipality in Gwinnett County, Georgia, United States
Suwanee is a municipality in Gwinnett County, Georgia, located roughly 30 miles (48 kilometers) northeast of Atlanta. The town spreads across residential areas with single and multi-family homes, shopping centers, and several parks along gentle hills.
The arrival of the Georgia Air Line Railroad in 1871 brought new trade routes and transformed an earlier Cherokee village into a hub for farmers and merchants. Decades later, the municipality was officially incorporated and began steadily growing into a suburb.
The name comes from the Cherokee language and refers to an old settlement by the Chattahoochee River that residents still honor today. Town Center Park has become the heart of daily life, where families gather and children play in the water.
The position along Interstate 85 makes trips to Atlanta and other destinations in Gwinnett County straightforward. Parking is available throughout the municipality, and pathways connect neighborhoods to one another.
The large interactive water fountain at Town Center Park draws children and adults during summer, who walk among the jets of water. The park also serves as a stage for outdoor concerts and events that regularly attract hundreds of visitors.
