Magnolia Springs State Park

Magnolia Springs State Park is a state park centered on natural springs that produce vast quantities of water daily, with wooden pathways built over the water for viewing wildlife. The springs feed pools where fish and aquatic animals thrive in the clear water.

During the American Civil War, the grounds served as a large military prison camp called Camp Lawton, operating as one of the largest detention facilities of that era. After the war ended, the site was abandoned and eventually transformed into a recreational park.

The grounds reflect a significant moment from the Civil War era, with recovered artifacts on display at an on-site museum that tells the story of what once happened here. Visitors walking through the park can see these remnants and understand how deeply this land is connected to American history.

The park offers accommodations ranging from cottages to camping sites suited to different preferences and budgets. Visitors should plan time to walk the boardwalks and watch for wildlife, which is most active in early morning and late afternoon hours.
