Jeffries Creek

Jeffries Creek flows through Darlington and Florence counties, forming a blackwater stream within a 48.4 square mile drainage area of the Great Pee Dee River.

The Florence Stockade, a Civil War prison camp for Union soldiers transferred from Andersonville, operated along the banks of Jeffries Creek during Sherman's campaign.

The creek environment supports numerous fishing activities with populations of Sunfish, Warmouth, Large Mouth Bass, Common Sucker, Pike, and Gar species.

The United States Geological Survey maintains monitoring station 02131110 at Jeffries Creek, collecting water quality data and stream flow measurements since 1966.

The creek flows through an old growth cypress swamp, providing habitat for diverse wildlife including warblers, woodpeckers, muskrats, beavers, hawks, and owls.
