KRON-TV, Television station in San Francisco, US
KRON-TV is a television station broadcasting from studios on Front Street in San Francisco's Northeast Waterfront, sharing facilities with KGO-TV in a historic building complex. The station produces more than 77 hours of local newscasts each week.
The station began operations on November 15, 1949, as the third television outlet in the Bay Area, broadcasting from the basement of the Chronicle Building. After decades associated with different networks, it transitioned to The CW network in 2023.
The station's news archives contain decades of footage showing how San Francisco's communities have gathered, protested, and celebrated together. This collection reveals the city's story through the lens of local journalism.
Visitors can access the station's archived news footage online to explore historical recordings of San Francisco. It is best to check in advance which parts of the facility are open for public viewing.
The station relocated several times throughout its history, moving from its original basement location to other buildings before settling at its current Front Street site. These moves reflect how broadcasting infrastructure evolved as the city grew.
