Seward Street Slides, Concrete slides in Noe Valley, San Francisco, United States.
Seward Street Slides is a public playground with two parallel concrete slides positioned on a slope in Noe Valley. The slides have different angles of descent and each leads to a sandy landing area at the bottom.
The playground was built in 1973 following a design competition won by a fourteen-year-old student. This project replaced original plans for a large residential building on the site.
The neighborhood has maintained and used this space for gatherings and play over the years. Families and children come here regularly to spend time together and have fun.
The site sits on a steep slope, so visitors should wear sturdy shoes or boots for safety. Many people bring cardboard pieces to use while sliding down to gain extra speed.
The concrete slides have been polished smooth by decades of use, making them faster than when they were first built. This wear has actually enhanced the sliding experience over time.
