William McKinley Memorial

William McKinley Memorial, Bronze memorial statue in Golden Gate Park Panhandle, US.

The William McKinley Memorial is a bronze statue in the Golden Gate Park Panhandle featuring a 15-foot female figure representing the Republic, dressed in a tunic and holding a palm leaf and sword. The figure stands on a decorated pedestal that includes a bronze medallion with McKinley's profile on its base.

President Theodore Roosevelt dedicated the ground for this memorial on May 13, 1903, honoring William McKinley following his assassination in 1901. The monument was designed by sculptor Robert Ingersoll Aitken and completed in 1904.

The statue, created by Robert Ingersoll Aitken in 1904, incorporates a bronze medallion displaying McKinley's profile on the decorated base.

The memorial is located at the eastern edge of the park near Baker Street between Fell and Oak Streets and remains freely accessible year-round. You can view the statue anytime from the outside without restrictions.

Following the 1906 earthquake, many residents took shelter near the memorial and established temporary camps around its base. The location became an important refuge point for people displaced from their homes.
