Japanese Tea Garden, Japanese garden in San Francisco
The Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco is the oldest public Japanese garden in the United States.
Created as a 'Japanese Village' exhibit for the 1894 California Midwinter International Exposition, it was converted into a permanent garden after the exposition.
The garden features classic elements of a Japanese tea garden such as an arched bridge, pagodas, stone lanterns, stepping stone paths, native Japanese plants, koi ponds and a Zen garden.
The garden offers traditional Japanese tea ceremonies and serves various types of green tea.
It houses a large bronze Buddha statue that was cast in Japan in 1790.
