Muir Woods National Monument, National monument in Marin County, United States

The 554-acre protected area contains 240 acres of old growth coast redwood forest with trees reaching heights of up to 258 feet.

President Theodore Roosevelt established the monument in 1908 after William Kent donated the land to safeguard the redwoods from logging activities.

The monument bears the name of John Muir, a naturalist who dedicated his life to preserving American wilderness through national parks.

Visitors must secure parking reservations before arrival, as the park implements a system to manage the flow of over 800,000 annual guests.

Redwood Creek flows through the forest, providing essential spawning grounds for coho salmon and steelhead trout within the protected environment.
