Safari West

Safari West is a wildlife reserve in Sonoma County spanning roughly 400 acres where about 900 animals from around 90 species roam within large natural enclosures. The property offers guided vehicle tours, overnight stays in elevated canvas tents, and an on-site restaurant with African-inspired cuisine.

Otto Lang founded Safari West in 1993 as a wildlife sanctuary, transforming the Sonoma County landscape into a center dedicated to animal protection. The property has since evolved into a place where species research and preservation take priority.

The facility presents African animals within California's setting and teaches visitors about species protection and natural habitats through educational programs on site.

The best time to visit is early morning when animals are most active and temperatures are cooler. Plan to spend 4 to 6 hours to comfortably explore the grounds and enjoy the full experience.

The property runs specialized breeding programs for endangered animals while also providing rehabilitation for injured wildlife native to California. This dual mission makes it a place that both supports global species conservation and helps local nature.
