Scotts Valley, City center in Santa Cruz County, California
Scotts Valley is a small city in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California. The community sits at 561 feet elevation and spreads across several ridges with wooded areas and residential neighborhoods.
Hiram Daniel Scott acquired the land from the former Rancho San Agustin in 1850 and built a lumber mill. The community later developed from this sawmill settlement and became officially incorporated as a city in 1966.
The city council organizes a yearly multicultural fair that brings together residents through food, music, and traditional performances from different communities.
State Route 17 runs through the city and connects it with San Jose to the north and Santa Cruz on the coast. From the center, shops and facilities along the main road are within walking distance.
Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph chose an office building in this town as the first headquarters for Netflix in 1997. At the time, the company still mailed DVDs before becoming a streaming service.
