Elk Grove

Elk Grove is a city in Sacramento County, positioned south of California's state capital. The area covers residential districts, parks, shopping centers, and numerous schools serving a population of more than 187,000 residents.

The settlement began in 1850 as a stop for travelers moving between Sacramento and San Francisco. When the Central Pacific Railroad was built in 1868, the location grew and attracted more residents and businesses.

Singh-Allen was elected in 2020 as the first Sikh woman to serve as mayor of a city in the United States, reflecting the growing diversity within the community. This moment represents the changing demographics and political engagement of different groups living in the area.

The school network operates elementary and secondary schools teaching more than 62,000 students. These facilities spread across the area and can be reached through several main roads.

Apple operated an iMac manufacturing plant in the city until 2002 and expanded the site into a larger company facility in 2018. This plant was one of the few production sites the company ran on American soil.
