Fairfield

Fairfield is a county seat in Solano County, California, located between two major cities in the northern part of the San Francisco Bay Area. The surrounding area is marked by open fields and rolling hills that stretch toward the east.

Captain Robert H. Waterman founded the settlement in 1856 and named it after his hometown in Connecticut. A few years later, the place won the status as county seat from Benicia and grew into a trade center for the agricultural region.

Downtown shows features of a typical mid-19th century Californian community, with wide streets and low buildings from different eras. Many residents attend neighborhood gatherings where people share meals and play local music together.

The area works well for travelers planning day trips in both directions while preferring a more rural setting. Many paths run through the neighborhoods and across flat sections that are easy to explore on foot or by bike.

The Jelly Belly Candy Company runs a production facility here that makes millions of jelly beans each year. Visitors can join guided tours and watch the individual manufacturing steps of the colorful candies along the way.
