The area contained the smallest post office in the United States, measuring only 6 feet by 8 feet, until its closure in 1934.
The site is located roughly 65 kilometers east of Salem along Oregon Route 22 and is easily accessible by car. The park is open daily for day visits and requires no special preparations to explore the trails.
The site marks a geographic transition where the narrow canyon upstream near Detroit Dam widens into a broader valley with small farms and open land. This boundary location makes it a place where two distinct landscape types meet visibly.
