Our Lady of Guadalupe Trappist Abbey, Trappist monastery in Carlton, Oregon
The Our Lady of Guadalupe Trappist Abbey occupies 1,300 acres of forestland within the western Willamette Valley, featuring four miles of walking trails.
Founded in Pecos, New Mexico in 1948, the monastery relocated to Oregon in 1955 due to agricultural limitations in the Southwest region.
The resident monks maintain a balanced daily schedule of communal prayer, spiritual reading, and manual labor, including bookbinding and operating a fruitcake bakery.
Visitors can explore the Guadalupe Loop trail, which spans 3.5 miles and reaches elevations of 770 feet, offering views of Mt Hood on clear days.
The monastery includes a 10,000-square-foot church built in 2007 that combines Cistercian architecture with Pacific Northwest design elements.
