We Choose Love, Memorial wall painting at Hollywood Transit Center, Portland, United States
We Choose Love is a mural painted across the ramp walls at the Hollywood Transit Center in Portland. The artwork features sunflowers alongside words from Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish, covering a significant portion of the transit facility's exterior.
The memorial was commissioned by TriMet in 2017 to honor Ricky Best and Taliesin Myrddin Namkai-Meche, who died during a train attack. The mural remained on display from May 2018 until January 2024.
The artwork, created by Sarah Farahat, incorporates elements from chalk messages left by community members following the tragic incident in 2017.
The mural is located at the Hollywood Transit Center on Northeast 42nd Avenue and is easily accessible by public transportation. The artwork was positioned in a public area that pedestrians pass through naturally.
The artwork was developed after community members left chalk messages at the site that inspired artist Sarah Farahat's creation. The design was selected from four submissions and transformed the transit station into a lasting memorial.
