Hollywood Theatre, Movie theater in Hollywood District, Portland, United States.
The Hollywood Theatre occupies a corner lot on Sandy Boulevard with Spanish Colonial Revival architecture dating from the 1920s. Inside, the main auditorium seats 384 people facing a large screen, while two additional theaters each hold 111 seats for varied programming.
John Virginius Bennes designed this entertainment venue in 1926 as an ambitious venue for public gatherings. Originally it seated nearly 1,500 people and presented vaudeville acts alongside silent film screenings.
The venue programs independent films and classic productions alongside contemporary releases across its three screening rooms. This mix shapes the theater as a gathering place for people who seek films beyond mainstream offerings.
The building sits on a major street in the Hollywood District with easy access for visitors. Check the program schedule in advance to find out which films play in which of the three auditoriums.
Since 2017, the venue houses Movie Madness, a massive film collection with about 90,000 titles on site. This makes it the only theater in Oregon capable of screening 70mm films while also operating a video rental business.
