Irvington Tennis Club, Tennis club in Northeast Portland, United States.
The Irvington Tennis Club is a Bungalow and Craftsman style clubhouse in Northeast Portland designed by architect Ellis F. Lawrence. The facility includes indoor and outdoor tennis courts, a swimming pool, and accommodates around 290 member families.
The club was founded in 1898 and experienced major growth in 1905 when the Irvington Improvement Association secured funding to purchase an entire block for new facilities. This expansion enabled the development of the comprehensive venue that exists today.
The clubhouse serves the neighborhood as a gathering place beyond tennis season, hosting lectures, card games, and dance classes for residents.
The facility operates year-round for members with both indoor and outdoor activities available depending on the season. Visitors should confirm membership requirements and which facilities are currently available before visiting.
The club hosted the first Oregon State Tennis Tournament in 1899 with players including Phil Neer, who went on to win the National Intercollegiate singles championship. This early role in the state's tennis history makes it a significant milestone in the sport's development locally.
