Tacoma Mausoleum

Tacoma Mausoleum is a burial building in Classical Revival style located on South Junett Street that accommodates both caskets and cremated remains. The structure features multiple wings and halls with numerous niches designed to hold both types of burials.

This building was erected in 1910 and was the first mausoleum west of the Mississippi River. It was expanded with additional wings in 1917 and 1925 to accommodate more burials.

The name reflects its purpose as a burial place that provides dignified resting spaces for the deceased. Visitors can observe the carefully designed interior spaces that create a solemn setting for remembrance and reflection.

The mausoleum is located within Oakwood Hill Cemetery and is best visited on clear, dry days when walkways are safe to navigate. Plan time for a quiet walk through the different wings to fully appreciate the architecture.
