Tacoma Dome, Indoor sports arena in Tacoma, US
The Tacoma Dome is an arena in Tacoma, Washington with a circular wooden roof spanning 530 feet across and rising 152 feet high. Seating can be adjusted for events ranging from 1,000 to 21,000 people.
Construction started on July 1, 1981 after voters approved a 28-million-dollar bond measure. The opening took place on April 21, 1983.
The venue carries sports competitions such as basketball and motocross shows along with concerts and stage programs, so the seating changes depending on what is scheduled. Families visit regularly for large touring acts and championship events.
The facility sits near the Interstate 5 exit and can be reached via Tacoma Dome Station. A 30-million-dollar renovation was completed in 2018.
The roof uses about 1.6 million board feet of lumber in its construction, making it one of the largest wooden domes in the world. This design gives the building warm acoustics during concerts.
